The highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 schedule has been announced by the PCB after ACC (Asian Cricket Council) accepted the hybrid model. PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) managing committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf made an announcement on Wednesday (July 19) after a meeting with Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Wahab Riaz, former captains Waqar Younis, Mohammad Hafeez, Abdur Rehman and officials of the PCB.

ACC approves hybrid model, Pakistan to hold hosting rights

It was expected that India will not go to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup 2023. So the PCB has suggested the hybrid model in which Pakistan will host 4 games including one game of Super 4s. At first, the BCCI rejected this model along with some other members of the ACC. But after some time, ACC approved this model after consideration with other ACC member countries.

This will help Pakistani fans to at least see their team playing some games in Pakistan. And the major part of the tournament will be played in Sri Lanka. Although, Pakistan will hold the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023.

The Tournament Format

There will be two groups in the Asia Cup 2023. Group A comprises India, Pakistan, and Nepal while Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The top two teams from both groups will advance to the Super 4s stage. Eventually, the top two teams in the Super 4s will play the final of Asia Cup 2023.

Pakistan and Nepal to kick off the tournament

The tournament opener will see the host Pakistan and Nepal locking horns against each other on August 30 in Multan, Pakistan. It will be the first time that both teams will play against each other in international cricket. Pakistan will look to start their campaign with a win in front of their home crowd.

Big moment for Nepal Cricket Team

It will be a huge moment for the Nepal Cricket team as they qualified for the Asia Cup for the first time in history. They qualified for the tournament after winning the ACC’s Emerging Premier Cup by beating UAE in the final by 7 wickets. Nepal will try to make the most of this opportunity they got. It will be difficult for them against big teams like India and Pakistan, but it will be the beginning of their growth as a cricketing nation.

4 venues for the Asia Cup 2023 across two countries

The Asia Cup 2023 will be held in four different venues across Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Multan will host the only game on August 30 between Pakistan and Nepal. And the rest of the Pakistan leg will be played in Lahore including one game of Super 4s.

Kandy, Sri Lanka will host three games in the first stage of the Asia Cup 2023. The last six games of the tournament (5 of Super 4s and a final) will be played in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

India-Pakistan set to be played on September 02

The biggest rivalry in Asia will take place on September 02 in Kandy. India and Pakistan will play for the 17th time in the Asia Cup. Till now, India is ahead in terms of record with 9 wins as compared to 6 wins by Pakistan in Asia Cup history. One game ended with no result.

Will India continue to dominate or Pakistan will add one more win to their tally? We will have to wait and see who will come out good this time.

3 games between India and Pakistan?

We can expect three games between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan. Unless Nepal does well against either India and/or Pakistan, both teams will advance to the Super 4 stage. It is highly unlikely that Nepal will make an upset. So the 2nd game of India-Pakistan will be in Super 4s.

Also, if both teams managed to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2023, we will see the third game between the two. Although till now, India and Pakistan haven’t played the final of the Asia Cup together in history. Maybe this will be the first time. Let’s see how it unfolds.
