The ICC has said that a final judgment on the venue for the upcoming T20 World Cup are going to be “taken later this month.” And within the meantime, it’s also asked the management to explore hosting options within the UAE with the likelihood of including “another venue within the Middle East .”

The decision comes two days after the BCCI concluded its Special General Meeting and requested the ICC a month’s time to explore possibilities to host the tournament in India itself.

The doubts over India hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup arises from the prevailing Covid-19 situation within the country and therefore the prediction of a 3rd wave within the near future. While the successful organization of England’s tour of India earlier this year was an attempt in BCCI’s arm, its decision to maneuver the IPL out of India, after multiple positive cases inside the bio-bubble, weakens its case significantly. The conduct of a 16-team World Cup would require multiple bio-bubbles to work almost like how it had been during IPL 2021 in India before it had to be suspended.

“A final judgment on the host country are going to be taken later this month,” the ICC said in it’s release. “The Board also confirmed that the BCCI will remain the hosts of the event no matter where the event is played.”

If the T20 World Cup indeed moves to the UAE, it’ll mark a busy season for the country which is already lining up to host the rest of IPL and PSL
