The Group Stages games of the ICC WC Qualifiers 2023 are almost completed. And we have already got our top 6 teams for the Super Six stage. Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Netherlands are the three teams who qualified for the Super Six from Group A. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Oman qualified from Group B. Today, we will see what an ICC WC Qualifiers points table is showing and who is standing at which position.

Group A’s Points Table

(1) Zimbabwe dominates Group A’s points table

Zimbabwe has won all four games in the Group Stages. They started their campaign with a win against Nepal and won the game by 8 wickets. ZIM was chasing 291, and the centuries from Captain C Ervine and S Williams helps the team to get over the line.

In the 2nd game, which was a high-scoring encounter against the Netherlands, Zimbabwe chased down a total of 316 with 6 wickets and 9.1 overs to spare. 

WI cricket in jeopardy, but an emotional win for Zimbabwe

In the 3rd game against West Indies, Zimbabwe sealed their Super Six spot by winning the match by 35 runs. S Raza and R Burl scored half-centuries in the first inning. Captain C Ervine also scored 47 runs but didn’t convert into a big score. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 268.

Zimbabwe bowlers were relentless with the ball. T Chatara led the bowling side with 3 wickets.  B Muzarabani, R Ngarava, and S Raza also took 2 wickets each.

Zimbabwe thrash the US in their last Group game

Zimbabwe won the last Group stage game against the US by 304 runs after scoring 408 runs in the first inning. With 4 wins in 4 games, Zimbabwe finished at No. 1 in the WC Qualifiers points table.

(2) Netherlands, the 2nd best in Group A

The Netherlands only lost one game out of 4 in the group stages against Zimbabwe. They won the other three games against the US, Nepal, and West Indies. Against US and Nepal, they won by 5 wickets and 7 wickets.

In the last game against WI, they won the game in the Super over. After WI scored 374 in the first inning, it looks like WI will easily win the game. But there’s an old saying – “Never underestimate anyone”.

The Netherlands also scored 374 and the game went to the super over. J Holder was given the job to restrict the Netherlands’ batters to a small total. But Logan van Beek was in a different mood altogether that day. He hit 30 runs to Holder including 3 fours and 3 sixes. He also bowled a super over and only gave 8 runs and took 2 wickets.

The Netherlands finished at No. 2 in the WC Qualifiers points table.

(3) West Indies just managed to qualify

West Indies, despite losing two games against Zimbabwe and Netherlands, managed to qualify for the Super Six. They finished at No. 3 in the WC Qualifiers points table with two wins in two games. Their two wins came against the US and Nepal.

Nepal and US eliminated

The two teams who were eliminated from Group A are Nepal and US. Nepal only managed to win one game while the US didn’t win a single game. They finished at No. 4 and 5 in the WC Qualifiers points table respectively.

Group B’s points table

(1) Sri Lanka dominates Group B

SL won all three games against Oman, Ireland, and UAE. Right now, as we are writing this article, they are playing their last group-stage game against Scotland. Both teams are unbeaten in the tournament so far. We will definitely see one of the teams losing their first game in the WC Qualifiers.

(2) Scotland also won their first three games

Scotland is also one of the teams after SL who won all three games. They won against Ireland, UAE, and Oman and playing their last game against SL right now. They are at No. 2 in the ICC WC Qualifiers points table.

(3) Oman wins two, lost two

Oman won their two games against Ireland and UAE by 5 wickets. They also qualified for the super six stages and finished at No. 3 in Group B’s Qualifiers points table.

No wins for Ireland and UAE

Both teams lost all three games and got knocked out of the Qualifying race. They both will face each other in their last group stage match. So this is the ICC WC points table. The super six stage matches will commence on June 29 at Bulawayo. Which two teams do you think will finish in the top 2?
