(1) Sam Curran

Sam Curran makes history in the IPL 2023 auction when he was bought by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping INR 18.50 crores. He becomes the most expensive player in IPL history.

He started his IPL career with PBKS in 2019 before coming to CSK for two years. The Englishmen were again bought by PBKS this year.

Sam Curran is the first player in the top 5 expensive players list. But he hasn’t lived up to the team’s expectations and his performance is not up to his reputation. Let’s see if he gets another big contract next year as well.

(2) Cameron Green

The Australian all-rounder has been in demand after he has done well in the international circuit. He brings balance to the team with his abilities.

MI franchise shows faith in him and bought him for a whopping INR 17.50 crores. Cameron Green is the second on the list of the top 5 expensive players in IPL history.

He has done reasonably well in the IPL 2023. MI used Cameron Green at the top order as well as in the middle order in the batting lineup. In the 14 matches so far, he scored 381 runs with an average of 54.43 and a strike rate of 159.41. He scored 2 fifties and a hundred with the highest score of 100 against SRH.

On the bowling front, he took 6 wickets with an average of 51 and a strike rate of 31. His economy (9.97) is on the higher side and his best figures in the tournament are 2 for 41.

(3) Virat Kohli

He is one of those players whose contract got increased in 2018. Till 2017, he was getting INR 12.5 crores as a contract. But in 2018, his contract gets a hike and he used to get INR 17 crores as a contract in the IPL. As we said earlier in the ‘NOTE’, he is one of those players who didn’t go to the auction table, but he is the third in the list of the top 5 expensive players in IPL history.

Right now, he is getting INR 15 crores as an IPL contract.

(4) Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes first came into the IPL in 2017 for Rising Pune Supergiants for INR 14.50 crores. He is one of the best all-rounders in world cricket right now. Ben Stokes is in demand every year on the basis of his international performances.

The CSK franchise picked him up this year for INR 16.25 crores, but they benched him most of the time due to his injury concerns. Now, there are reports that he is heading back to England despite CSK being in the playoffs.

Before this year as well, his value in the IPL was on the higher side. He played for RR for 3 years (2018-2020) for INR 12.50 crores. He pulled out of IPL 2021 with the same contract.

Ben Stokes first came into the IPL in 2017 for Rising Pune Supergiants for INR 14.50 crores. He is in the fourth of the top 5 expensive players list.

(5) Chris Morris

Rajasthan Royals banked on Chris Morris in 2021 for a heavy amount of INR 16.25 crores. The South African all-rounder was a big hitter who can play as a finisher and bowled well in the death. But he is also, like Sam Curran, hasn’t shown his worth and his performance that year was not up to the mark.

In the IPL 2021, he only scored 67 runs in 11 games with a highest score of 36 not out. He took 15 wickets in those games with an average of 25 and a strike rate of 16.40. His economy (9.17) is also a bit higher.
