India won this auspicious title in 1983 and 2011. Since then, the team has not been able to clinch this title. This time, the team and its fans are having high hopes to leave a mark and win this world title again.

The World Cup Qualifiers are over and two of the participating teams have been selected for the main event. Eight out of the ten teams have prequalified due to their performance in previous world-class events.

ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers

The ICC World Cup qualifiers matches started on 18th June 2023. As per the schedule, these teams competed against each other to qualify for the world-class event.

Based on the outcomes of these matches, the teams were rewarded with points. As per the point gathered, only two teams got qualified for the main event. These teams are the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. These two teams will become a part of the two groups chosen for pre-knockout stage matches.

ICC World Cup 2023 Teams

Now that the qualifier round is over, all ten teams have been enlisted for the ICC World Cup 2023 match schedule. These teams are:

ICC World Cup 2023 Group Stage

The stage for the ICC World Cup 2023 is all set. We have ten teams selected for the upcoming matches. To make it easier, the ICC board has divided ten teams into two groups. Hence, each group will have five teams. These international teams will play matches against each other by following the Round Robin method.

Due to this method, a total of 41 matches will be played in the group stage. These matches will reward points based on the teams’ performance. Once the matches are over, the top four teams will be chosen for the next round. It means only one team will be eliminated from a group.

ICC World Cup 2023 Knockout Stage

The best four out of five teams will play the crucial matches in the knockout stage. It means only one team will be knocked out in the group stage. These four teams will play the quarterfinal and semifinal matches to choose the best two among them. The best two teams will play the Final Match to be held on 19th November. A total of seven matches will be played in the knockout stage which includes quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.

ICC World Cup 2023 Tiebreaker Rules

What will happen if the points gathered by one team match the other? If the points of two or more teams match, the ICC Board will follow these tie-breaker rules.

  1. Head-to-head results
  2. Net run rate
  3. Fair play points gathered
  4. Number of wins
  5. Lowest number of losses
  6. Highest run scored
  7. Most wickets taken

The ICC Board will decide which team will proceed to the next level based on the above parameters. These tie-breaker rules will be applied when two or more teams have the same points.
