Most Wicket-Takers

With not many high-scoring games in this TNPL season, one can say that bowlers have dominated the tournament.

So let us look at the top 5 most wicket-takers of the TNPL 2023:

Gurjapneet Singh

The left-arm quick bowler, Gurjapneet from Siechem Madurai Panthers is the first wicket-taker so far in TNPL 2023. He was smashed by Nellai Royal Kings’ batters for 30 runs in just 2.4 overs in his opening game. In the second game against Dindigul Dragons, he made a remarkable comeback and took three wickets.

He is now the leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets in just seven games. Singh has been a consistent contributor to his team’s success. He took another three-wicket haul against Salem Spartans. Not only has he been a wicket-taker but he has bowled his overs economically. He will be an important factor for Siechem in the playoffs.

Shahrukh Khan

The captain of Lyca Kovai Kings, Shahrukh Khan is next on the most wicket-takers list. While playing for Punjab Kings in the IPL, he doesn’t bowl much. But for his TNPL team, he has been a consistent performer with the ball. With 13 wickets in just seven games, he is performing like a regular bowler.

In his first game of the season against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, he took a three-wicket haul and led his team to victory. His all-round performances have played a huge role in Lyca’s success. With his team being on top of the table, he has a chance in the playoffs to get more wickets and become the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.

P Bhuvaneswaran

The third most wicket-taker in TNPL 2023 is from IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, P Bhuvaneswaran. With 13 wickets for him as well, Bhuvaneswaran did his best but his team couldn’t able to qualify for the next stage of the league. The right-arm medium bowler displayed immense character throughout the tournament.

His exemplary performance against the Nellai Royal Kings, where he took a five-wicket haul destroying the batting lineup of the Kings. Apart from this fifer, he also bagged four wickets against Ba11sy Trichy, which was also one of his best performances in the tournament. But now with his team not qualifying for the playoffs, he is out of the race of the highest wicket-takers.

Varun Chakaravarthy

The mystery bowler, Varun Chakaravarthy yet again impresses everyone with his stunning performances. He is not so far away from his superiors as he is the fourth most wicket-taker with 11 wickets in the seven games. He started this tournament with a Player of the Match award as he picked three wickets.

Now that Dindigul Dragons have qualified for the playoffs, Varun can easily surpass as he is just two wickets away to get the purple cap. Apart from taking wickets, he kept the batters under control by not giving too many runs. He will play a crucial role for the Dragons in the upcoming games.

M Poiyamozhi

The right-arm quick bowler from Nellai Royal Kings has been lethal throughout the tournament. Poiyamozhi is the fifth most wicket-taker with 11 wickets in seven games. He is the one who can disturb the batters with an old ball and take wickets in the middle overs.

Poiyamozhi has taken two three-wicket hauls, one against Lyca Kovai Kings and the other against Chepauk Super Gillies. Nellai has entered the playoffs, so Poiyamozhi can take a few more wickets and have a chance to be the highest wicket-taker of the season.

These were the top five most wicket takers of TNPL 2023. There are a few more who can come up in the last few games like Siddharth Manimaran from Lyca, and Subhodh Bhati from Dindigul Dragons. Well, Subhodh has been exceptional throughout the tournament not just with his bowling skills but with the bat as well. Siddharth Manimaran also has the best economy of just 5.43 this season.

Let’s see who will come out on top among all these exceptional performers and win the purple cap. We are on the verge of knowing who will lift the TNPL 2023 trophy. Let’s hope for an exciting playoff and may the best team lift the trophy.
