The stage is all set for the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023. The ongoing competition is being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The first match of the tournament took place between the hosts, Sri Lanka A and Bangladesh A. Sri Lanka A won the opener comfortably by 48 runs.

India A led by Yash Dhull, are off to a great start with a win against United Arab Emirates A. We have seen all the players of the India A team in the IPL 2023. Being the favourites of the tournament, India A will look to make this title count.

Format

There are eight teams divided into two groups of four each. So each team will play once against their group members, and the top two teams from each group will be proceeding towards the knockout stage. The match is 50 overs per side, just like the upcoming World Cup 2023.

Teams of The ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023

India A:

The Emerging Indian team is led by the Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull. India A team have all the recognised players as we have seen them in IPL playing for their respective teams. Players like Abhishek Sharma, Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana and all these players have done well in the domestic and got the opportunity to represent the Emerging Indian team.

Afghanistan A:

Afghanistan cricket seems to be improving as they got automatic qualification in the Cricket World Cup 2023. Now their Emerging team is here for the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023. Shahidullah Kamal will lead the young Afghan team.

Bangladesh A:

The Bangladesh Emerging team will be led by Saif Hassan. Soumya Sarkar, Mahedi Hasan, and Naim Sheikh are a few of the renowned players. With a help of a few senior members present in the team, Bangladesh A can be dangerous.

Nepal A:

Team Nepal will be led by Rohit Paudel. It is a great opportunity for associate teams like Nepal to send young players and build for the future.

Pakistan A:

The young team of men in green will be led by Mohammad Haris. Shahnawaz Dahani, Mohammad Wasim Jr, and Qasim Akram have already represented the senior men’s team and will provide the youngsters with experience.

Oman A:

The emerging team of Oman is led by Aqib Ilyas. We have seen a few players from this team in the recent World Cup qualifiers, to name a couple, Aqib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh are two of them.

UAE A:

The UAE emerging team will be led by captain Ali Naseer. With a little experience in the team, they are going to learn from this tournament and try to win as many games as they can.

Sri Lanka A:

The hosts o the tournament are off to a great start with a win against the Bangladesh A team. Nipun Dananjaya is leading the group and gave a strong start to the team. With a few experienced players, the Sri Lanka A team will be a competitive side to play against.

Groups

Each team will get to play three group-stage matches. The top two teams will move towards the knockout stage. Here are the two groups:

Group A

Afghanistan A, Oman A, Bangladesh A, Sri Lanka A

Group B

India A, Pakistan A, United Arab Emirates A, Nepal A

Venues

These are the four venues that will be hosting the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023.

  • Sinhalese Sports Club

A total of 75 matches have been played at this venue, with 30 of them won by batting first. On the other hand, the ground is preferable to chase as 37 matches are won by the chasing teams. Also, the average first innings total in the ODI format is 200. The captains would look to bowl first after winning the toss.

  • Colombo Cricket Club Ground

Only three matches have been played here so far. The teams batting first won two, while the chasing teams won only one. Also, the average first innings total here at this venue is 193. The captains would look to bat first at this venue.

  • P. Saara Oval Cricket Ground

This particular ground has favoured the chasing teams, as they have won on 11 occasions out of 24 games. The par first innings score at this venue is 189. So, the teams would look to chase here as well.

  • R.Premadasa Stadium

A total of 154 games have been played here at this venue. This ground has heavily favoured the teams batting first, as they have won 83 times while the chasing teams have won the games 61 times. The average first innings score at this venue is 231, so the captains would look to bat first at this venue.

The ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023 tournament is a great opportunity for youngsters to get recognised by their respective boards. They will get exposure to playing international teams which will eventually help them grow as a cricketer because of this particular tournament.
