The ICC World Cup 2023 is just less than 4 months away and fans are waiting for the marquee tournament to start. A total of 10 teams will participate in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 with 8 teams already qualified for the tournament. And the rest two teams will qualify to play the tournament after finishing in the top 2 of the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

10 teams playing in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers

A total of 10 teams are playing in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. Those are Nepal, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, USA, UAE, Ireland, Oman, Netherlands, and Scotland. The teams are divided into two groups.

Out of those 10 teams, the top 6 teams (3 from each group) will qualify for the Super Six. And then the top 2 teams will play the final. Both the finalists will be a part of the ICC World Cup 2023.

3 back to back wins for Zimbabwe in WC 2023 Qualifiers

Zimbabwe have started their ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers campaign with 3 back to back wins against Nepal, Netherlands, and West Indies. They have now entered into the Super Six stage along with the Netherlands and West Indies from Group A.

Zimbabwe has played very good cricket till now in the Qualifiers and they are doing well in all three departments of the game.

Nepal vs Zimbabwe

Nepal openers have done well and added 171 runs for the first wicket. They were even 246 for 2 at one stage in 43 overs. But after that, they continue to lose wickets at regular intervals. Nepal scored 290 runs on the board in the first inning.

Zimbabwe chase it down easily

With the help of Captain C Ervine and S Williams’ centuries, Zimbabwe chased down a target quite convincingly. Both remain not out on 121 and 102 respectively. The former also becomes the man of the match for his outstanding knock

Netherlands vs Zimbabwe

The Netherlands scored a good total of 315 on the board in the first inning. The openers added 120 runs for the first wicket. And then captain Edwards played an outstanding knock of 83 off 72 balls. S Zulfiqar also played a cameo of 34 off 31 lower down the order.

A Quick run chase for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe openers off to a flying start in a run chase. And the quick-fire knocks of S Williams and S Raza also helped Zimbabwe to chase the target with 6 wickets and 9.1 overs to spare.

Emotional moment for Zimbabwe after a win against West Indies

We will not consider it as an upset. Shall we? Because West Indies are not in that phase where he used to win games. But still, Zimbabwe winning against West Indies is a very big moment for Zimbabwe cricket.

Zimbabwe got all out for 268 in the first inning. A half-century from S Raza and R Burl helps the team to put a respectable total on the board.

ZIM bowlers get the job done

Zimbabwe bowlers were relentless with the ball in the 2nd inning. T Chatara was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets. B Muzarabani, Ngarava, and S Raza also took 2 wickets each. A few WI batters got starts but didn’t convert it into a big score.

Zimbabwe qualified for the Super Six stage

After that outstanding and emotional win against WI, ZIM is now qualified for the Super Six stage. Nepal and WI are also qualified from the same group. While SL, Scotland, and Oman have qualified from the other group.

What next for Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe has one game left from the first stage, which will be against the US. This game will not be that important. They will now focus on the Super Six stage where they will meet some more tough opponents. Also, it will be challenging for them now. 

Will they finish in the top 2?

As we saw against WI, they beat them by 35 runs. They are playing very good cricket and have the potential to be in the top 2 and qualify for the ICC World Cup 2023.

The Super Six games will start from June 29 at Bulawayo. Zimbabwe will look to continue playing good cricket and wants to qualify for the ICC World Cup 2023.
